You can tell the games used to come with a manual because… well, obviously, the game assumes you know how to control the game beforehand... which was not the case.
So half a day has been spent just getting to grips with the controls and exploring a bit (aunt said not to swim but my role-playing of the mc is that he's a free spirit, so and I swam).
Now that I've gotten the hang of the controls, things are going more smoothly.
I've caught TREMENDOUS “big mormon” butterfly that goes hard and caught a fish that literally is 👁️^👁️
This is a great exercise to just take it slowly. Not pushing it. Just playing however I want, at my own pace. Maybe I miss something. Maybe my experience is not “ideal” or guide-like. But it needs not to be like it.
So, I’m playing one day at a time. This is my Boku no Natsuyasumi 2 experience.
The sound of the Japanese rural summer mixed with the classic melodies of the vinyl records was a juxtaposition I didn't expect to find in a game. Together with the beautiful background art, the setting is simply unbeatable.
Anyway, I have to learn to keep an eye on the pier, it seems like an important area...
After doing some research on the island, I discovered that Yoshika's sister can give you tips on what to do during the day using a paper fortune teller, which I thought was a brilliant idea for such a free-form game.
At night, I went to Yoshika's room and it was magical to find her playing her father's old vinyl records at full volume.
I mentioned Yoh the day before and BAM, I ran into him. Yoshika, he's an ENGINEER, be careful, friend...
Anyway, they sent me to name a random river, but they clipped my wings and asked me to seek the opinion of others to come up with a name. I wanted to call it Losdel Rio.
Censorship.
Chill day
Yoshika has started talking about Yoh, and here's some GOSSIP. I hope that at some point I'll get to see their reunion...
Today Enanabe took me to the secret beach... which I saw on the first day while exploring lol
Also, I almost drowned the protagonist while checking if there was anything in a hole in the sea. Safety first and all that.
And I'm going to STOP talking to Grandpa. It's too sad and it makes me tear up, but I understand him.
New guest, yesterday I confused her with Yasuko, but today's guest IS Yoshika. She plays the guitar, so I'm looking forward to seeing her play!
But the most shocking thing today was talking to Yasuko and Hikari's grandfather about his wife... Damn, I almost shed a tear, I swear.
Lovely, the father's solution to the bridge was to splice two logs together. Totally safe, complies with OHS regulations and everything.
At least I got a bunch of new bugs, used my aerospace engineering knowledge to identify the valve (and my ability to read that it said “valve”), and gave it to Yoh. Hopefully, this will lead to him and Yasuko reuniting.
Not every day was going to be memorable.
Today it was time to explore, see if they were repairing the bridge, and little else lol.
It's normal that Yasuko is ignoring Yoh; the guy has no heart.
I arrived at the clinic in the afternoon and found a nameless girl in the patient room (which was empty this morning). When I asked the old man, he said that room hadn't been used in a while...
GHOSTS, just the touch of FLAVOR I was missing in the game, a slightly spooky element. I LOVE IT.
I thought things with Yoh were going to progress, but it seems like something is missing. I saw a log that I wanted to cut down, but I couldn't find an axe...
I also found a 100 yen coin. At night, they say it went missing from the cash register, but the protagonist keeps quiet about it (I don't blame him).
Incredible GOSSIP today with the tremendous push the protagonist gave Yoh for Yasuko. With teenagers, “i dare you” works wonders.
However, I made a mistake today... I guess. I accidentally let Yasuko's dog loose, and it took me to a random grave. It felt important, and I felt sorry for him. I hope he knows how to find his way back.
Yasuko's family story is getting more INTERESTING. Not only for her grandfather and his late wife, but for a possible clash with the arrival of her MOTHER in the village.
I've also been swimming in the sea and found a few bottle caps, but for some reason the diary says I found a secret passage lol.
Finally, I think the storyline about the old man and the sick girl has come to an end... it was beautiful and sad at the same time... I really liked the supernatural yet nostalgic tone that colored this series of events.
Anyway, I got part A of Yoh's rocket. I don't know if that will really send him into space, but it will do something, I guess.
Today the monk came to visit, which was really funny at such a solemn moment.
The sick girl and the old man had a moment this evening. I guess it was a representation of the prayers said in the morning and it was beautiful...
I finally got to give him the key, and although nothing spectacular happened, it was quite emotional... The idea of an absent father/mother who is actually caring for their child in their own way from a distance fits well into this plot, although I wish they had talked...
Also, I'm finding out TODAY that there's a bike and it's great... Welp, better late than never, lol.
Yasuko's mother has left without saying a word to her daughter... I was hoping for some kind of encounter between them, but I guess that's how life is sometimes, and at least she left her THE KEY.
However, the game didn't let me give it to Yasuko today…
A day of emotions.
A lovely conversation between Yoh and Yasuko, Hikari feeding the cats, and Grandpa once again feeling down, wondering how long his granddaughter will live as he watches her sleep...
I have no predictions for tomorrow. It's time to be a free spirit and investigate!
SHAME on the family for not remembering their own mother's birthday... although, to be honest, I was the same at their age.
Today, a grumpy old man arrived on the island, and Yashiko acted strangely after receiving a phone call... Could there be a secret between the two of them?
Anyway, I hope I can enter the cave tomorrow...
I don't know if I missed last night's cutscene or if there isn't one, but apparently there was a big earthquake and I didn't hear about it...
It looks like there will be some new things to do these days, we'll see!
PS: I also didn't find Hikari tonight...
Not satisfied with yesterday's accident, I went exploring the cave today and... I found gold bars!
What's more, Yoshika has been talking on the phone suspiciously again, and it looks like someone new is coming tomorrow... I can't wait!
Takeshi took quite a fall when he jumped into the cave... he only sprained his ankle a little fortunately!
Yoshika is still acting suspiciously, don't know why, but I'll keep an eye on her... Just like I did with Yoh and Yasuko, who were fooling around both day and night, looking at the stars.
A chill day where the biggest event was setting off the last fireworks of the summer...
We're in the last week of the game and, in general, of the summer. It makes you think about what you've done during the month, and I'm very happy with how the summer has gone (especially not dying of heat).
A new romance seems to be blossoming with the young man who has set up camp on the coast... It seems that they are investigating Mr. Grumpy, and I think I know why...
Things are getting interesting!
Well, it was a bit of a letdown despite the fact that I gave it all I had and put my name on the rocket... I might even get a fine because the rocket went over the hill.
Of course, it looks like Yoshika and her partner have something up their sleeves for tomorrow... We'll see.
Bridge day, preparing things for what's coming up.
Above all, for tomorrow's LAUNCH of Yoh's rocket. Hopefully it goes well!
Today, the protagonist's brother was born in the evening! You can tell that the end of August is approaching, and with it, the adventure...
Everyone is already getting ready to say goodbye to Boku (myself included).
I don't know what I expected from Taniguchi's arrest, but I spent the whole time looking for him and he wasn't even where the gold was.
In the afternoon, as if by magic, they caught him and left without saying a word... But at least Yasuko left me a letter lol
I am sure that the summers I have experienced, as a kid from southern Spain, are nothing like those of a city boy in the Japanese countryside.
And yet, these 31 days with Boku have made me appreciate small parallels that have brought me closer to or even reminded me of my first summers, as well as my memories of the birth of my own younger brother.
Although the morning was quiet, as the sun began to set, little surprises began to appear, such as Yoshika's return and the beach party at night.
The emotional ending also featured Yoh's gift of a surprise rocket that reached space with the name Boku on it...
I truly believe that this game has opened a window for me to reflect on how I spend my summers in a broader, more conscious way, and at the same time, it has been like a slideshow of different memories surrounding it.
